The much-anticipated second season of the musical adult cartoon Hazbin Hotel launches on the streaming platform this week, and audience theories has been rampant.
The first season introduces a diverse group of personalities living within Hell and Heaven, pits them against each other accompanied by musical numbers detailing their conflicts, and establishes tense rivalries and emotional bonds that fuel audience devotion.
The fandom's stated hopes for season 2 vary widely, but certain themes recur frequently: Could Angel Dust escape his tormentor? Will we find out more about the binding agreement affecting the enigmatic Alastor? Might certain characters' relationships evolve?
"Naturally, I don't make the show with audience demands specifically in mind," the creator stated recently. "But I feel like me being a devotee of the series means there's a lot of it just inherently. I also am eager for these things, and I want some of these things to happen, and obviously some of these things are meant to happen in the show!"
She reveals her big-picture plan is for five seasons of Hazbin Hotel. Future installments have already been green-lit by the production companies, which produce the series.
That could imply fans have to be patient for some of the biggest payoffs — but they may be surprised at how quickly season 2 progresses, and how much of what they're anticipating unfolds this season.
"I feel like people are going to get a lot out of it," she adds. "There are several debut moments. I think we get some really amazing reveals, some fascinating origin tales, and even basic elements, [like] I hope this character gets a song. […] We're going to hear additional musical numbers from the previously silent cast members."
The creator is well-informed of the theories and desires about the upcoming season — especially in the format of fan bingo cards.
"I've seen a few fans create a prediction grid about season 2," she says. "Naturally I won't share it, but I've already completed a few items, and nearly every one of them have almost a bingo. I thought, Oh, if you put this [event] in this spot, it would be a bingo. So that leads me to believe we do a lot [of what fans are waiting for in this season], because I was like, Oh, there's multiple potential bingos on this card. So that brings me joy."
Hazbin Hotel season 2 launches on Prime Video on Oct. 29.
